Phase I: Luckily, all the tutorials are built into the software. Watch the "How to" videos to get an idea about how its done.
Let's start off with a movie or book trailer.
Phase II: Starting Small. Book or Movie Trailer.
Book and Movie Trailers
Book Trailer Project
It's time to banish the traditional book report. You will create a vibrant book trailer that captures the essence of the book you’ve chosen.
Part A
Step 1 Start by watching some professional-grade book trailers on YouTube: 1. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever" by Jeff Kinney and 2. “Hero" by Mike Lupica.
Step 2 Compare and contrast the book trailers to movie trailers. We are all more familiar with movie trailers.
Step 3 Create a list of common elements of book and movie trailers to share with the class.
Step 4 Then hop back online and watch some student-made book trailers, like the one a middle school student did for another Mike Lupica book, "Million Dollar Throw."

Part B
Now you are going to create your own book trailer.
Almost any movie-making software can be used to make a trailer, but we will be using Openshot Video Editor.
Your trailer should be the length of a radio play song (roughly 3:00 minutes) and have transitions, animations, and sound. It will also include an introduction and ending credits.
Note: This project is shareable. This means if you don’t share it, I might!
Movie Trailer Project
Repeat Parts A & B, but with the intent to create a Movie Trailer instead. This movie will be student created.

Create a short (+/- 3 minutes) video about your favorite subject: YOU! Be sure to include music. Sound effects are fun, but optional.

Phase V: Final Project... the MOVIE!
Final Project
You will create an original film short about a subject of your choice (must be school appropriate and approved by me.) This film must be a minimum of 10 minutes and no longer than 20. It will have intro and outro credits, special effects and spoken lines.
Step One: Job Assignment
Within your teams you will determine who does the following jobs:
Your crew will introduce your film and then answer questions after the film is played. Each member of the crew must be prepared and able to answer any one of the questions competently.

Step One: Job Assignment
Within your teams you will determine who does the following jobs:
- Director – must be able to work with group for the best outcome of the project, but has final say over disputed aspects of project.
- Camera Crew – one or two members of the team to film the actual footage.
- Writers – one or two members of the team who will write the script for your film short.
- Actors – one or more members of the team to portray the characters you have created.
- Tech Crew – everyone in your group must be responsible for an equal portion of your film.
- Brainstorm your project. Decide what type of film you will be making: documentary, drama, sci-fi, western, action, etc.
- Write out a detailed script for the entire film. Be sure to divide logical breaks into chapters, called scenes.
- Follow the script as your roadmap.
- Using the cameras provided, record your actors as they move through the script. If you wish to use a phone for filming purposes, you must ask first!
- Sometimes it may be necessary to “reshoot” a scene or two. It’s ok.
- Now that the filming is finished, all members of the team will begin cleaning up the final product.
