February 14th is Valentines Day and Arizona's 104th Birthday.
February 24th is the annual TCDS Olympiad. February 25th and 26th is Rodeo Break. Coming up on March 4th is a dress down day. All proceeds go to the Kids of Steele Foundation. THE PARENT SURVEY IS STILL OPEN, PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO COMPLETE IT TODAY! Once again, it's time to ask you to take a few minutes to give us your feedback about Tucson Country Day School. The survey has 23 questions and can be completed in about five minutes. Surveys are submitted anonymously and our administrators read every one of them. This is your opportunity to give us your feedback and suggestions for making TCDS even better than we are today! Please click on the link below to complete the parent survey today: => https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TCDS2016 Thank you! Welcome to 2016. In 7th/8th grade Technology we are creating our own video games and play-testing them too. Using a Microsoft program called Kodu, the students are coding simple video games and testing their fellow students' games. In 6th grade Technology we have wrapped up our Internet Safety Project and moved on to their favorite: All About Me!! Since each is the leading expert on this particular subject, we will hear from the stars themselves. These never cease to be very enlightening. Please ask your student what elements they included and what their games' objectives are. Monday January 18th is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the school will be closed. Wednesday January 27th is our Matter of Pride shirt day. Please keep in mind: LUNCH PROGRAM IS DESPERATELY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS! Moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends... We need helpers from 10:30 to 12:30 to serve lunch for our awesome students! Contact Ms. Vanessa & Ms. Stacey in the TCDS Kitchen ASAP if you're available one or more times a week! General Announcements...
Please be aware that this Friday is a dress down day for the Community Food Bank. Each student dressing down must contribute a food product in order to dress down. The following are the categories we hope to supply for the Food Bank: 6th – canned tomato products 7th – canned veggies 8th – mac and cheese Please be as generous as you are able. Thanks. In Technology... We have completed our SketchUp projects and learned some computer aided drafting. And now we are off and running with the Hour of Code. From my website, each student can log into the HoC website and learn block coding to create some pretty cool video games. Its hard to believe that half the school year is nearly over! The semester ends on December 17th. Please check with your student(s) to encourage them to complete all their assignments and get caught up on missing work before the end of the semester. Please be aware that each student enrolled in Technology is expected to bring with them a pencil, a flashdrive and earphones (earbuds preferably). Some students do not come to class prepared and thus the reminder. Thank you for your assistance in helping to make Technology a fulfilling course. Have a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Year! Veterans Day
A very special thank you to our men and women who have served and are serving in our armed forces. We truly appreciate the sacrifice you and your families make for the freedoms we all enjoy. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We need your help! TCDS has its own coffee - Good Coffee for a Good Cause. We are selling it on Amazon to raise money to buy more Chromebooks. From 11/14 to 11/20, we need to sell 300 bags of coffee. This will raise our ranking on Amazon so our coffee shows up on the first page when people search for coffee products. Please share the link below with everyone you know and ask them to support TCDS by buying one or more bags of coffee. It tastes great and makes an excellent gift. Please buy a bag for yourself too. If every family can help us make one sale, we'll make our goal of selling 300 bags in 7 days. Good Coffee for a Good Cause sells for $18.99 on Amazon. You can get a bag for only $12.00 (an almost 40% discount!) Please buy a bag today and share this link: www.TCDCharterSchool.com/coffee _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fall Book Fair is coming! Dates: November 16-20 Times: 2:45pm-5pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday 1:45-5pm Location: Multi-Purpose Room ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Technology classes: Please remember to bring your flashdrive, earbuds and pencil with you to class everyday!! 6th Grade Wishing a fond farewell to the 1st trimester Champions. We had a load of fun in Technology. Now its time to welcome in the the next trimester. We will kick off with Internet Safety before tackling the rest of the fun we have in store! 7th and 8th Grade Using computer aided drafting software, Google SketchUp, we have created some pretty impressive kitchens, media rooms, game rooms and houses - we even wrecked a house or two for fun! Currently in 6th Grade Technology I we just wrapped up our Internet Safety Project where we learned about the 'Dark Side of the Internet' and are now building Power Point Presentations about their favorite subjects: themselves! The response from the students has been as fantastic this year as last - they really do enjoy this project!
Now in 7th and 8th Grade Technology II and III we have completed our Techno Current Event and our Techno Guru projects and have moved into some basic computer aided drafting (CAD) using Google Sketchup. Designing the exterior of a house and becoming familiar with the tools of the software has been both challenging and rewarding as we see our progress with each step of the process. Technology is under way. There is a lot of fun things to learn and so we have hit the ground running.
Please be sure to bring your flashdrive, a pencil/pen, and your earbuds/headphones everyday. We will be using them regularly. It was nice meeting everyone and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better as well as making this year the best it can be! IT'S SURVEY TIME!!! PLEASE TAKE OUR PARENT SURVEY TODAY!
Every year, we ask you to take a few minutes to complete a parent survey. Your feedback helps us to know how we are doing as a school and what we can do to make your family's school experience even better. Your input guides us as we make decisions for improving school operations and communications, and helps us as we identify our priorities for the upcoming school year. This year's survey contains questions that will guide us as we finalize the 2015-16 school year calendar. You can take the survey here: => https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TCDS_2015 Thank you for helping us to make TCDS awesome! * This Friday 2/6 is a dress down day for $1 - all dress code rules apply.
* Next Wednesday 2/11 is a half day for students. * Science Night is Tuesday February 17th from 6-8 pm here at TCDS. * The TCDS Olympiad is February 25th. * Rodeo Break is February 26-27. * MS Dance @ Skate Country on March 5th from 6-8 pm. * May 2nd is the "Go Live" Specials Celebration here at TCDS. As our world becomes more and more technological, we feel it is necessary to give our Champions the skills they will need in an advancing world.
And although we will explore both what is available now as well as reach toward the stars, we need to conquer the basics to build a safe foundation for a bright future. Internet Safety is very important and therefore is required for all middle school technology students. This unit helps to understand the dangers on the internet and more importantly, how to stay safe while navigating the world wide web. Accompanying our many and various projects, we are mastering these Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to build technical skills useful in the classroom and outside as well. Using many different software programs enhances not only learning the programs, but facilitates the acquisition of academic content as well. As teaching young learners becomes more challenging in a fast paced world, we combine the content and the technology to reach as many children as we possibly can. And with each of these learning milestones, students will add to their presentation skills to become more comfortable in front of their peers. Multimedia tools in the classroom are an important and increasingly necessary tool within education. |
